Folksonomies - Meme alert

2005 may be remembered for the rise of collective tagging–what are now being called “Folksonomies”. It’s relatively early, but this is likely to spread like wildfire. Here’s an academic paper that tries to widdle the phenomenon down to its fundamentals. But the point is…it just intuitively makes sense. There are a lot of leaps happening on the Web these days, most of them, like blogging and open source, taking some time to get the recognition for the force they are. But tagging could spread far more rapidly. Then again, it’s an outgrowth of these other trends that have been brewing for a long time. It’s going to be a fun year.
